Replatform (Lift & Tinker)
Move with optimisations: self-managed databases → RDS / Aurora, file servers → EFS / FSx, web tier → ALB + Auto Scaling. Cost-efficient sweet spot.
Refactor (Re-architect)
Rewrite as cloud-native: monolith → microservices, EC2 → Lambda + API Gateway, batch → Step Functions. Highest long-term value, longest investment.
Repurchase (Drop & Shop)
Replace legacy app with SaaS: on-prem CRM → Salesforce/Dynamics, exchange → M365, payroll → SAP SuccessFactors. Killer move when feasible.
Retire (Decommission)
